Aztec Showgirl

This encaustic mixed media piece measures 18" x 12" x 3".  It merges time, space and cultural beliefs.  It was created as an offering to please the Gods, and the God within us all.  The Aztec Indians placed great importance upon many rituals including: human sacrifice, and dance itself.

Aztec dance was considered to be a prayer-like ritual.  Here it is mixed with the modern showgirl for a contemporary twist on human sacrifice...  As a human, what would you sacrifice?  What would you do to please the Gods?   What would you do to please the God within yourself?

The Aztec used art to express political, social and cultural issues.  What exactly does this Aztec Showgirl mean to you?
